  • Coquille Indian Tribe

< Back Coquille Indian Tribe The Coquille Indian Tribe flourished in Oregon’s southwestern corner for thousands of years, cherishing the bountiful forests, rivers and beaches of a homeland encompassing more than 750,000 acres. But the 19th century’s onslaught of European diseases, gold mining and westward expansionism nearly erased our people. Treaties ceded our homeland to the U.S. government, in exchange for promises that would go unfulfilled. Our ancestral culture nearly went extinct. In 1954, Congress declared the Coquille Tribe “terminated.” But we endured. Restored to federal recognition in 1989, we are rebuilding our nation. Today we number more than 1,100 members. We have regained more than 10,000 acres of our ancestral homeland, and we proudly manage the bulk of it as sustainable forest. We provide education assistance, health care, elder services and (where needed) housing assistance to our people, while contributing substantially to the surrounding community’s economy. Our various enterprises employ about 600 people, and our community fund is the region’s leading local source of charitable grants. Despite contagion, dispossession, assimilation and near-annihilation, we are still here. TRIBAL PRODUCERS Contact Info Phone 541-779-1501 Social Email Website https://www.coquilletribe.org/

  • Hozho Herbal Creations

< Back Hozho Herbal Creations My journey as a birth worker all started when I became pregnant with my son Sage. My husband and I were so thrilled at the thought of becoming parents. I decided fairly quickly that I wanted to have a homebirth. It was such a spiritual experience. I didn’t know the strength and endurance I had in me to birth my son. Knowing what power every single person possesses in bringing their baby's earthside was so profound, magical, and by far the hardest and strongest thing I’ve ever done. I soon right after became obsessed with everything that had to do with womb wellness, fertility, pregnancy, birth, and herbal support. I knew right away that I wanted to utilize my compassion and energy on supporting parents in every way I could, especially in the postpartum period. I joined a labor doula workshop at Birthingway College of Midwifery in the summer of 2019 and the Doulas of Color Business Workshop beginning of 2020 to learn more. Shortly after joining, I decided to start my own practice and that is when HózhóFull Spectrum Care was born. Since then I have had the pleasure of supporting over 50 families. Birth is 100% spiritual and physiological. You are bringing another life through from a spiritual portal, you and your baby work together to do this. That alone is such a transcendent interconnected journey. Not one birth is the same, each is different and unique, your story is yours and yours alone. This time can be raw, delicate, and altering, my goal for you is to feel heard, safe, and supported throughout your entirety of care. I provide informational, emotional, herbal, spiritual, and physical support to reach healthful and informed care. MY VISION Is to decolonize the birth narrative, by bringing awareness for the importance of advocacy for Black, Indigenous, Latina/x, Asian, and other people who identify as POC. My hope is to improve the maternal and infant mortality rates among Black and Indigenous communities with more education surrounding pregnancy, labor + birth, lactation, feeding, and newborn care support. I went on to study aesthetics at Aveda Institute Portland to become a licensed Esthetician. I now offer holistic facials in Portland, Oregon and handcraft my extensive skincare line of our organic farm apothecary in Washington. • CTUIR Department of Natural Resources

< Back CTUIR Department of Natural Resources The Walla Walla and Umatilla are river peoples among many who shared the Big River (Columbia). The Cayuse lived along the tributary river valleys in the Blue Mountains. The Tribes lived around the confluence of the Yakama, Snake, and Walla Walla rivers with the Columbia River. The river system was the lifeblood of the people and it linked many different people by trade, marriage, conflict, and politics. The people fished, traded, and traveled along the river in canoes and over land by foot. The Umatilla occupied both sides of the Columbia River from above the junction of the Umatilla River downstream to the vicinity of Willow Creek on the Oregon side and to Rock Creek on the Washington side. The river people were tied with other Tribes along the river with close family, trade, and economic interests in the Columbia River Gorge and the northern Plateau. The Walla Walla and the Umatilla were a part of the larger culture of Shahaptian speaking river people of southeastern Washington, Northeastern Oregon, and Western Idaho. The Cayuse, whose original language is known to linguists as Waiilatpuan, lived: "..south of and between the Nez Perces and Wallah-Wallahs, extending from the Des Chutes or Wawanui river to the eastern side of the Blue Mountains. It [their country] is almost entirely in Oregon, a small part only, upon the upper Wallah-Wallah river, lying within Washington Territory."
