  • Sakari Farms

< Back Sakari Farms My name is Upingaksraq (the time when the ice breaks). Spring Alaska Schreiner is the owner and Principal Ecologist-Indigenous Agriculturalist of Sakari Farms. I am an enrolled member and shareholder of the Chugach Alaska Native Corporation and Valdez Native Tribe. Inupiaq lineage allows a unique/diverse cultural perspective of the use of historical food systems ranging from Alaska to Oregon and regional tribal lands on Turtle Island. Spring serves on multiple regional and national agricultural boards and educational committees and advocates for local farmers and tribal members. Spring received the 2019 NASDA Women Farm to Food Award, and more recently, the recipient of the 2021 Na’ahlee Tribal Fellowship and the 2022 Ecotrust Indigenous Leadership Award for the PNW. I participate in the USDA Indian Agricultural Council, Made by Native American Export Food Program, Indigenous Seed Keepers Network, Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance, American Indian Housing Authority, PNW Inter-Tribal Food Sovereignty Coalition, and many other regional policy based boards and committees. PNW Inter-Tribal Agricultural Food Guide was created by Spring Alaska- she noticed as a Tribal Farmer, Tribal Food Producer, Indigenous Seed Keeper, and TEK Educator that there was a need for more access to our tribal foods and connections in the PWN specifically. • Warm Springs Commissary - Warm Springs Community Action Team

< Back Warm Springs Commissary - Warm Springs Community Action Team The Commissary will provide the physical infrastructure and a place for local entrepreneurs to operate their small businesses, while also providing the supportive infrastructure necessary for Tribal entrepreneurs to have everything they need in an environment that fosters their success. While the Commissary Project is a direct response to combat barriers local entrepreneurs are facing when trying to start a small business in the Warm Springs community, WSCAT recognizes the project is a symbol of so much more. Not only is the project an opportunity to have a lasting impact that shapes the economic future on the Warm Springs Reservation, it represents an opportunity to heal, an opportunity to hope, an opportunity for change. By Creating an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem, Promoting Authentic Placemaking, and Increasing Autonomy and Resiliency the Commissary will set a foundation to build a thriving reservation-based economy. Moving the building to its new location right off of Highway 26 is a visual representation of a community open for business! The Commissary’s thoughtfully designed space, rooted in community, presents Warm Springs as a destination and a regional resource. For visitors, clients, tourists, friends, families and business partners, we are eager to provide this welcoming space and the vast cultural wealth within – from authentic art to local food to innovative businesses. Outdoor spaces and multiple uses extend the Commissary’s value far beyond its walls. Much more than a building, the Commissary will create a community gathering place that anchors visitors and local community members to the cultural, social and economic identities of the Confederated Tribes, while inspiring all who visit to reimagine what is possible. < Back 1st Prep Meals 1st Prep was started by le Cordon Bleu Certified, Chef Lloyd George who has 20 years of food & beverage experience. Lloyd was born and raised in East Idaho where he grew a passion for cooking professionally. Lloyd always wanted to learn from scratch cooking and jumped at the opportunity when it became available. He left home to chase his dream of becoming a chef where he attended and graduated from le CordonBleu Culinary College in Seattle Washington in 2012. In 2014 Lloyd went back to school attending le CordonBleu, Las Vegas, NV where he graduated with honors. 1st prep is something Lloyd has wanted to become a reality so he can share his culinary knowledge with people who love simple food at its highest level of flavor. You will see the passion and creativity in all the food prepared. Dressings from scratch, vegetables cut fresh, and meats cut by hand. Overall, Lloyd is adamant that meals are consistently prepared weekly for all members of the family, including kids’ healthy snacks, breakfast smoothie cups, egg scrambles, and solo dinners up to family meals. • Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs

< Back Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs The Tribal Farm is working to establish irrigation systems and plant a base crop of grain hay, alfalfa hay and orchard grass hay for the tribal members’ livestock needs, as well as the commercial agriculture industry. After this base crop rotation plan has been established the farm will continue expanding its portfolio into the specialty crop market of vegetable seed, flower seed, grass seed, legume seed, and grain seed crop opportunities. With the lower elevation and microclimate associated with Moody Farm and Culpus Farm, the Tribal Farm will have an advantage over other farm ground in Central Oregon. The crop possibilities are endless for years to come on tribal farm ground. The Tribal Farm has identified several objectives for the business: Use of water rights on tribal lands.Re-engage farming to generate revenue and begin rebuilding a sustainable industry on the reservation.Provide tribal member employment opportunities.Provide a pathway for tribal members to develop agricultural aptitudes and skills through educational tours and internships. The mission of the Department of Range and Agriculture is to provide services and technical assistance to the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation and its membership for the protection and enhancement of agricultural and range lands to ensure that these resources are properly managed for the use of present and future generations.
